U.S. stops issuing work visas to Haitians without a profession

The US will stop issuing visas to low-skilled citizens of the Republic of Haiti. This will put an end to attempts to provide jobs for Haitianswho suffered after the earthquake of 2010.

About the change in policy towards migrants from Haiti, the Department of homeland security (Department of Homeland Security — DHS) announced a week after meeting in the oval office during which the President trump questioned the state’s interest in the immigrants from Haiti and African countries.

The Republic of Haiti is excluded from the list of countries (more than 80), whose citizens can be granted visas H-2A and H-2Bissued, in particular, seasonal workers in the agricultural sector.

Among immigrants from Haiti, the most «high level of fraud and abuse,» and «a high level of delinquency» visa said in a statement DHS. According to 2017, the Haitians on various types of nonimmigrant visas, including H-2A and H-2B in 40% of cases ignored the deadline.

Belize and Samoa are also excluded from the aforementioned list for the risks in connection with human trafficking and the return of U.S. citizens taken abroad.

Supporters of granting visas say that Haitians are deprived of a rare opportunity to work legally in the United States, to contribute to the country’s economy and to help restore Haiti after the earthquake, which killed more than 200 thousand people.

The Embassy of Haiti in the United States the operational review did not provide.

In an interview with Reuters Wednesday, January 17, trump praised Haitians: «I love these people. They have warmth, he said. — This is a very hard-working people».

Humanitarian groups, Republican and democratic members of Congress lobbied for the position of the Obama administration to keep the citizens of Haiti the opportunity to obtain short-term working visas, arguing that migrants ‘ remittances to their families back home, will help the country recover from the earthquake.

Without a visa H-2A and H-2B chance to go to USA for the majority of Haitians becomes negligible.
