The U.S. government intends to introduce enhanced procedures for the verification of the refugees from 11 countries with a high level of risk. These include States with predominantly Muslim populations: Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Mali, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.
About changing the rules on Monday said the Department of homeland security. According to a press release of the Ministry, the new policy includes 3 main points:
- extra screening for immigrants from the above-mentioned 11 countries, seeking asylum in the United States
- be more cautious when assessing the total allowable level of reception, the installation of local restrictions on their entry and the consideration of applications for resettlement
- periodic review and updating of the list of countries with high level of risk and selection criteria for refugees
Before you make changes to the rules, the Secretary of the Department of homeland security, Kirsten Nielsen for 3 months analyzed the situation in the field of immigration threat from 11 countries, simultaneously conferring with experts from other relevant agencies.
«We find it extremely important to know who crosses the U.S. border. Additional security measures will prevent hardened criminals to exploit our reception, and we will protect their homeland,» said Nielsen in a press release.
