The new Yorker saved the dog from death, and now it wants to deport

Rescue pet was a threat of deportation for the father of 2 kids, residing in Queens since 1994. August 10, could be 47-year-old Edison Barros of Ecuador’s last day in the United States. Now the man is in prison.

«He’s not a criminal,» says one of his daughters — 21-year-old Paola.

In may of this year their dog Chucho ran across the road in Masbate right under the wheels of the car. To attract the attention of the driver, Edison threw the keys on the car window. The driver stopped and called the police. Barros was arrested for destruction of property.

Later the man was released, but around the courtroom he was met by ICE agents.

Barros first came to the United States in 1994, was deported in 2003 and returned to America in 2004.

City Councilman Francisco Moya, also a native of Ecuador, urged not to deport Barros. «In all the years that he lived in the United States, his only «crime» was a rescue dog. Now innocent, hard-working people deported. You need to stop this,» said Moya.

Earlier, Mexico deported the wife of a veteran of the U.S. marine corps.
