The new York state intends to prohibit teachers to carry guns in school

In new York as part of a broad package of gun control will prohibit teachers to carry guns in school. The bill actively promotes a state Senator Todd Kaminsky, Nassau County official.

After the shooting in Parkland (Florida) in 2018, the President of trump and the NRA called for arming teachers and school staff. Vice News recently reported that at least 466 districts across the country have adopted a policy that allows it to do. However, new York wants to go the other way.

«At the moment under the new York law, if the district decides it wants to arm school personnel, he can do it,» said state Senator Todd Kaminsky, the official representative of Nassau County.

Supporters of arming teachers, saying that it will allow them to protect the students, if the school breaks out of shooting. But Kaminsky believes that weapons in school are not able to solve the main problem. Besides, most teachers don’t want to wander around school classes in search of gunmen.

«The teachers that I talk to just want to teach», he added.

According to Kaminski, it would be logical to provide weapons to the guards, not teachers.

A bill prohibiting teachers to carry guns in school, is part of an extensive package of measures on gun control, which should be considered by the Senate and the state Assembly on Tuesday.

Republicans who controlled the Senate until January of this year, refused to consider laws with additional measures to control weapons. But now that Democrats control the state government, a bill must pass.
