The number of crimes with hate crimes in new York grew by 81%

Mayor De Blasio is concerned about the surge of anti-Semitism in new York. During the year the number of crimes motivated by hate increased in the city by 81%, and two thirds of them were committed against the Jewish community. The mayor announced Thursday, February 14, at the Jewish community center of Midwood, which brought together police representatives from around the district, prominent members of the Jewish community and students from the yeshiva in Flatbush.

Periodically at synagogues appear with the call to kill all Jews, and on buildings and urban structures — the swastika. Recently, the 77-year-old resident Midship found 2 of the swastika on the wall outside his home, Brooklyn, was found swastikas painted on one of the subway trains on the line L.

In late January, vandals set fire to the yeshiva in Monsey (Rockland County, new York), pre-painted its walls with swastikas.

In January, on President Street in Crown Heights at about midnight has been committed to 51-year-old Jew. Two men knocked the man knocked to the ground and started beating him down. In the end, both suspects were arrested and charged with a crime of hate.

In November there was another unpleasant incident at 68 Throop Avenue. 33-year-old victim, clothed in a religious clothing, talked on the street, when suddenly a stranger came and hit him on the head, and after shouting an insult and ran away.

EO not all cases occurred over the last year. And although some do not look too intimidating, the police should not turn a blind eye, because at any moment can turn into action. This convinced the chief of the patrol police of Rodney Harrison.

Harrison also added that they intend to increase the number of police officers in problem areas.

De Blasio believes that the city should be more tolerant and to help the Jews, because new York is home to the largest community of Jewish immigrants in the world.

«We must be an example to the world, showing that we are able to protect the Jewish community,» the mayor added.
