Company Facebook filed a lawsuit against the Ukrainians, create a quiz, for stealing the personal data of users through malicious plugins

The company Facebook has sued two Ukrainians for the fact that they allegedly used online quizzes to steal personal data of users of Facebook to show up in their news feeds advertise.

According to the lawsuit, filed on March 8, two employees of an international company Web Sun Group — Kiev Gleb Sluchevsky and Andrey Gorbachev accused of organizing multi-year hacking scheme. In the period from 2017 to 2018 they through advertising on Facebook offered users to install plug-ins for browsers, horoscopes and quizzes. These apps were published under the names of «Supertest», «FQuiz», «Megatest» and «Cookie» and suggested to have such popular and simple quiz like «Who you of the modern vampire» or «Who is your counterpart from the past» (fotografiyami Stalin and Lenin on the cover).

Once users were hooked hackers, they are automatically redirected to a page on another website, where they register via Facebook account or other social networks. But when people have installed the extension for your web browser, then developers have had access to their accounts. Victims of hackers have installed this app about 63 thousand times.

Facebook claims that they spent on the investigation of this case more than $75 thousand, the Company accuses the remove and Gorbachev in violation of the Law on computer fraud and abuse through data access Facebook without authorization, and fraud and breach of contract due to the fact that they presented themselves as the legitimate developers Facebook.

Note that because the defendants reside outside the United States, they are unlikely to face serious consequences from this lawsuit. But such cases give Facebook the opportunity to defend himself from accusations of breach of privacy and security.
