Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald trump can meet next week at the Asian economic summit. If the meeting takes place, it will be held amid growing tension in relations between the two countries due to the sanctions against Moscow, the conflict in Syria and investigating alleged Russian interference in the presidential election campaign in 2016.
On Friday, the Kremlin said that at the moment negotiations about the meeting at the summit of the Asia-Pacific economic cooperation (APEC) in da Nang (Vietnam), which will be held from 8 to 10 November.
«This meeting is really being discussed», — said the press Secretary of the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov. «It’s hard to overestimate the importance and relevance of any contacts between the presidents of Russia and the USA for all international issues.»
In an interview on Fox News, trump also suggested that the meeting could take place.
«We may have a meeting with Putin,» he said. «And, again, Putin is very important, because Russia can help us with North Korea. They can help us with Syria. We should talk about Ukraine.»
