For the first time in US history at the local elections were won by African-American-transgender

Local elections in the United States can be called a true triumph for human rights. For the first time in the history of the country, incumbents took just two open transgender. Moreover, one of them is a woman of African American descent.

According to the results of people’s will in Minneapolis, a member of the municipal Council was Andrea Jenkins. Her election campaign was based on such priorities as affordable housing and raising the minimum wage.

56-year-old Jenkins was quick to congratulate the human rights organization HumanRightsCampaign and Victory Fund.

African-American is not the only representative of the LGBT community, won an election on Tuesday. A member of the legislative Assembly of Virginia was transgender Danika A. Roy.

Before politics, she worked as a journalist in the publications of the Gainesville Times and Prince William Times.

33-year-old winner managed to win the chair at his chief opponent, 73-year-old Republican Robert Marshall, a well-known conservative views. The politician does not hide the negative attitude towards representatives of sexual minorities and positioning itself as a «chief homophobe,» Virginia. For this reason, he even refused a pre-election debate with Roy. The gap between the candidates was about 10% in favor of the latter. Now Marshall is forced to give the opponent a position he occupied since 1992.
