Ilhan Omar again in the crosshairs of the critics: this time for an old tweet about the murdered Somalis

A member of the house of representatives Ilhan Omar was again criticized by opponents for allegedly exaggerated the number of Somalis killed during the military operation in 1993.

In October 2017, the Democrat wrote that in the battle in Mogadishu has killed thousands of people — although, according to the report of a Research project on terrorism, in the most authoritative sources this number is much less.

Omar, a native of Somalia, elected to Congress last fall, responded to the tweet Ron Harris, in which the battle of Mogadishu in 1993 was named the most terrible terrorist attack in the history of Somalia. The author of the original message noted that 19 American soldiers were killed and 73 were wounded.

«In his selective memory [author] forgets to mention the thousands of Somalis killed by us forces in that day! #NotTodaySatan,» wrote Omar to repost.

Critics, including veterans who participated in the battle, immediately responded to an old post.

«Our army, greatly superior in numbers, fought to save his own life. All you had to do the Somali militia, is to leave, but they persisted,» said pilot Mike Durant who was shot down in Mogadishu on 3 October 1993. He was in the captivity of the Somali national Alliance 11 days.

The battle of Mogadishu occurred between U.S. forces and the illegal armed formation of the Somali national Alliance (SNA). The American military was in Somalia in the framework of the UN peacekeeping operation to rescue the starving Somalis and the protection of food.

The battle posvyashennaya the book of Mark Bowden’s «Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern War», which filmed in Hollywood. Drama film was released called «Black hawk down».

In 2001, in an interview with Bodenham captain Haad from SNA reported 133 victims. In the book the author says that the dead Somalis was about 500, and in other sources the death toll is approaching 1,000. But nobody said that there were thousands of them.

Statements Omar has repeatedly caused controversy. In February she was accused of anti-Semitism after Congresswoman said that Israel is the occupier in the Palestinian territories.
