Russian state media angry because of the American TV series «Chernobyl» from HBO

American TV series «Chernobyl», filmed on the nuclear disaster at Chernobyl, was in first place in the ranking of the site IMDb and surpassed even the legendary «Game of thrones». But despite the rapid boom in the United States, in Russia, the series caused quite the opposite reaction.

«Komsomolskaya Pravda» (KP), the most popular Russian newspaper expressed suspicion that the competitors of the state Corporation for atomic energy «Rosatom» used the series to tarnish the image of Russia as the leading nuclear powers. And popular among the elderly the newspaper «Arguments and facts» called the show «a caricature, not truth.»

«Lacking only the bears and accordion!» — said the host of «Russia 24» Stanislav Natanzon during the review of the series. He showed pictures showing modern Windows on the building in Pripyat that are only visible if you greatly enlarge the image. However, a critic of the series found flaws not only in small details.

On his show, the host of «Russia 24» rejects the fact that the Soviet authorities were afraid to admit their mistakes and that this reluctance has led to dire consequences. According to the leading article of the scientist Valery Legasov, who was investigating the causes of the accident in the newspaper «Pravda» proves that this is so.

Says Moscow Times, Legasov had written critical of the article in 1987, the editors did not like it and it is not published. By this time, the Academy of Sciences rejected the idea Legasov and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev refused to grant him the honorary title of Hero of Socialist Labor (although the Secretary has awarded them those who worked with Legasova in Chernobyl). Second anniversary of the Chernobyl accident, 26 April 1988, Legasov was hung up. Two weeks after his death, the newspaper «Pravda» has decided to publish an article about Legasov.

When these historical interfacing the Natanzon pointed out to his fellow journalists, he promised to apologize in the following program, but stressed: «the General history it doesn’t change».

By the way, recently appeared the news that the Russian TV channel NTV also working on a series about the tragedy at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. According to Russian media, this film will tell you how actually the events unfolded before and after the accident, which occurred on 28 April 1986.
