According to Nauert, if necessary, travel to North Korea «with certain limited humanitarian or other purposes» will need to obtain a passport with special permission.

In may, Democrat Adam Schiff and Republican Joe Wilson introduced a bill banning U.S. citizens to visit North Korea. The catalyst for this was the case with the American student Otto Warmbier, who was detained by the DPRK government in January 2016 and sentenced to 15 years hard labor on charges of «hostile acts against the state». June 19, a week after returning to the U.S., 22-year-old Warmbir died.

It is worth noting that over the past 10 years in North Korea, was detained at least 17 Americans. Currently in prisons is three citizens of the United States. Negotiations for their release continue.
