Affordable housing in new York: apartments from $558 per month

Four years ago, a local development Corporation Cypress Hills has applied for the construction of a multipurpose building at 2501 Pitkin Avenue in East new York.

Now that the project is finally completed, the seven-story building, known as the Pitkin Berriman Apartmentsare over 3,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor, including a grocery store, the internal rear courtyard, Playground and garden, and numerous apartments available for rent.

Flats fall under the affordable housing program, will be able to rent people in low and middle income and earning 40, 50, or 60 percent of average income.

Traditionally, the names of the lucky few that will pay less than all the other inhabitants of the area, will be known during the housing lottery, which will include 47 apartments. The cost of rent for apartments in a new building varies from $558 per month for one bedroom to $1224 per month for an apartment with three bedrooms.

The people of new York, comply with all the conditions can apply for participation in the lottery till 27 Nov 2017. Residents of Brooklyn Community Board 5 will receive preference for 50 percent of cases. More information about how to apply, is available here (pdf).
