The future on the threshold: home, created by a 3D printer worth $10 thousand

This week was quite eventful for the city of Austinbecause there was the annual technology festival SXSW (South by Southwest). The company ICON presented the draft budget of the house at a cost of $10 thousand. In addition to attractive prices, the project is allocated by the method of construction: to create the company used a special 3D printer.

Externally the house resembles a small concrete structure and is not original style, but the highlight is not in the fanciful design. Its main advantage is the budget price and high speed Assembly. According to company executives, this house can be build for a day or two. This incredible speed was built possible thanks to a special 3D printer to Vulcan, which uses for this purpose one of the most popular building materials in the world — concrete.

Right one of the demonstration booths of SXSW, the company rapidly built a house in which there is all necessary for comfortable living: living room, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. This «set» you can add a small porch under a canopy, on which nestled the flowers, a couple of tables and chairs for them.

As stated by co-founder Jason Ballard, one of these houses, the company plans to use as his office. This is done not only to save money, but also to assess the suitability of such buildings to live in them. Employees firms will establish in the premises of the special sensors that will monitor air quality in the house, and a number of other devices designed to determine how safe to live in these buildings.

In the long term ICON in conjunction with the nonprofit organization New Story is planning to implement a project to build 100 houses using this technology.
