Today representatives of city service, Citi Bike announced that next week in new York will begin to operate a new dock, which will set in Astoria, long island city, Harlem, Crown Heights and Prospect Heights.
The extension service will consist of the launch of 140 new stationscontaining 2,000 bikes in neighborhoods where previously the authorities promised to increase the number of stations with public bikes more than twice before the end of this year.
The station appears in areas where the residents could not appreciate the advantages of this service: 59 it is planned to install in Astoria, 27 – in Crown Heights and Prospect Heights, and several dozen more will open in Harlem between 110th and 130th streets. Long island city-Queens the first quarter in which service Citi Bike was launched in 2015, will also receive seven new stations as part of this extension.
The installation of the new stations will begin on 12 Septemberin Manhattan and then in Queens and Brooklyn. The representative of the Department of transportation announced that the station will be activated on the same day they are installed. It is expected that all 140 will be commissioned by the end of 2017.
Officials say that after the wave of the future expansion of the Citi Bike service will cover an area of over 30 square miles in parts of Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. While the authorities do not provide information about when a bike network will fully cover these areas, but the press release says that the Department of transport «actively exploring all available options to achieve this goal.»
