Residents affected by hurricane Florida Keys may be left without light for a month

After hurricane Irma all the utilities of the Florida intensified in order to eliminate all the existing damage and to allow the residents of the affected areas to return to their homes. However, not all problems can be solved quickly. Energy companies claim that the restoration of power lines in the Florida Keys can take up to a month.

As previously reported, hurricane Irma damaged more than ¾ of the homes in the Florida Keys, ¼ of them completely destroyed.

Florida Power & Lightcompany, provides electricity to almost half of the state, said it hopes to complete restoration work on 22 September.

«Full-time employees of the company in the amount of more than 21 500 people and contractors from nearly 30 States and Canada are working around the clock to restore service after hurricane Irma,» — said in a statement on Twitter.

Another company that provides electricity to the Florida Keys — Keys Energy Services, said that from Key West to Big Coppitt Key the power supply will be served at full capacity in 7-10 days.

In other areas of Florida affected by the hurricane, the situation is more encouraging. So, in Miami, the power supply is restored to 60% of the affected areas. In Tampa the restoration is over 50%. In the County of Duval to restore the power supply has been already this morning.
