Today a judge of the Federal district court for the southern district of new York sentenced 48-year-old Brian Coll, the former security guard of the prison complex on the island of Rikers, to 30 years in prison.

This happened back in 2012, but due to the fact that quite a long time Brian Koll managed to hide details of the circumstances of the incident, he was arrested only in June 2015, and for a long time he lay without movement.

And it was all like this: suffering from diabetes, cardiac arrhythmia and kidney disease the last stage Ronald Speer went to the prison hospital to consult doctor.

But he stopped the Call, saying that this is impossible. Apparently, this answer was not satisfied with SPIRA, because between them there was a quarrel which then developed into a fight.

Soon to the aid to the security guard ran up two more officers – Brian Taylor and Anthony Torres, who was kept prisoner on the floor when the Call was kicking him in the head.

When you are finished with punches, Bryan Cole is up SPIRA and said to him: “Remember that I did it”. Some time later, Ronald Speer died of a cerebral hemorrhage because of the resulting shock.

Two years after the death of a prisoner, his family received from the city a monetary compensation in the sum of $2.8 million.

When it passed into the hands of judge Loretta Preska, Call the lawyers tried to prove that their client suffered a mental deficiency, and the instigator of the fight was concluded.

Building a line of defense for mental disorders of the defendant, no complaints against him during 12 years of work on the island and mentioning that after the death of SPIRA, Brian got a tattoo with tears, lawyers Call asked for him from 4 to 6 years of imprisonment.

But the judge was inexorable, and ordered for Brian Call’s 30 years in prison.

“Any reasonable person knows that violent and repeated beating of a man on the head creates a high risk of death or serious bodily harm. There was nothing casual or sloppy,” said Loretta Preska.

As for Taylor and Torres, first they gave false testimony, claiming that their colleague was struck in the spirit, not with my feet, and a cane of the prisoner. But soon both pleaded guilty, and Torres testified against the Call.

It is noteworthy that this case is only one of many filed against employees of the island-prison Rikers. In March of this year, new York mayor bill De Blasio announced that during the next ten years Rikers will be closed.
