A police officer from Chicago, and served for 21 years and only recently became a US citizen

Hector Alfaro has lived in the United States at the age of threewhen his parents moved here from Mexico.

Hector joined the corps the marine corps of the United States, and then began to serve in police Department of Chicago. He had children, then grandchildren. As the officer told the Chicago Tribune, of course, he was thinking about getting citizenship, but each time not enough time – night shift, children, other responsibilities.

So the years turned into decades, but this year, the officer still decided to act.

The other day a veteran of the police Department who has served the windy City for 21 years, received citizenship at the naturalization ceremony in Chicago. The event was held in honor of Constitution Day and citizenship.

«He was very nervous,» — said the wife of Hector, Maria, after the ceremony. «I’m so proud of them.»
The younger sister of Hector, Nancy – the only one among his siblings who were born in the United States. She noted that the long awaited this moment. «This is the only country they know,» said Nancy Alfaro about their older brothers and sisters. «She was always their home.»
The ceremony was also attended by U.S. Senator from Illinois Tammy Duckworth, who was born in Bangkok.

«I spoke no English until his eight years,» said Duckworth. «I understand what that means to your parents.»
