The former Hitman of a mafia family, Salvatore «Sammy the Bull» Gravano was released after 17 yearsspent in the Arizona Federal prison.

Gravano was sentenced to 20 years in prison, but released early. As reported by the Associated Press, the Department of corrections of Arizona, the man will remain on parole until the end of his days.

Gravano’s lawyer, Thomas Farinella, said that his 72-year-old client looked very optimistic. The defender did not disclose information about where it intends to live with Salvatore.

«For 17 years, much has changed, he needs to get used to it. He’s trying to figure out what to do next and wants to take it slow,» he told Farinella.

«Sammy the Bull» in the 80’s he was a hired assassin working for the mafia clan Gambino, and confessed to his involvement in 19 murders.

But later, in 1991, he became an informant for the government and helped to arrest 39 members of the mafia, including boss John Gotti, giving evidence against him.

The plea of guilt Gravano received a five-year prison term. After that, he lived in Arizona, under the program of protection of witnesses.
In 1997, the man got out of the program, began to give interviews on TV, wrote the book «Underboss».

And in 2000, Gravano was arrested along with his wife, daughter and son for drug trafficking in Arizona and new York. According to authorities, cash flow from this amounted to 500 thousand dollars a week.

Salvatore pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Gravano’s lawyer said that his client was a «model prisoner».
