Tesla wants to restore electricity in Puerto Rico

Billionaire and chief inspirer of Tesla Elon Musk used to amaze with their technological breakthroughs. On Thursday, the inventor said that his company can restore the electricity network in Puerto Rico with solar panels.

«Team Tesla [built solar power system] for many small Islands around the world, but don’t stop there, the same can be done for Puerto Rico – wrote Musk tweeted in response to one of the users. – Such decision is in the hands of the government of Puerto Rico, PUC, any interested commercial entities and, most importantly, residents.»

The Tesla team has done this for many smaller islands around the world, but there is no scalability limit, so it can be done for Puerto Rico too. Such a decision would be in the hands of the govt PR, PUC, any commercial stakeholders and, most importantly, the people of PR.

Tesla has already implemented similar projects in the field of Autonomous solar and battery on the Hawaiian Islands of Kauai and Samoa.

However, both projects were designed to supply electricity for a much smaller population than Puerto Rico. However, Tesla CEO confident that the existing enterprise of the company can be expanded to meet greater demand.

Currently, only about 10% of the island has electricity – and that’s after more than three weeks after the «shock» of hurricane Maria. On Monday, the Governor of Puerto Rico Ricardo Rossello said that the restoration of the quarters of the businesses of the island can take a month.

In the state of the power plant on the island claim that some households will not have power for 4-6 months. Any decision by Tesla is likely to be focused on long-term, not immediate recovery of essential energy.

However, the company sent hundreds of battery Powerwall, which accumulate and store solar energy to help faster to supply electricity to the Puerto Ricans.
