On Thursday, the Ministry of justice of the United States has compiled a list of cities and counties-called «safe havens» for immigrants, which may violate Federal immigration law requiring them to maintain contact with immigration and to report illegal immigrants, writes Reuters.
This list includes New Orleans, new York, Philadelphia and cook County along with Chicago.
As stated by the Ministry, city and County, who was suspected of breaking the law, have until October 27 to submit evidence of compliance with the legislation.
If the government decides that they really violated the regulation requiring it to provide information about immigrants to Federal agencies, city and County could lose millions of grants, which are allocated for law enforcement.
According to the New York DailyNews, new York and other cities of refuge had already received «the last warning».
We will remind that the authorities of some cities (including new York) have a policy whereby illegal migrants arriving on their territory, are not prosecuted for violations of immigration law and not report them to Federal services.
As stated by attorney General Jeff sessions, «areas that support this policy, and adhere to the views that the protection of foreign criminals is more important than the protection of legitimate U.S. citizens and the rule of law.»
