Winter is not just coming, as they say in the acclaimed series, she’s already here.
The state of new York began to accept applications for financial assistance with heating program Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP).
This program allocated Federal funding in the amount of $327 millionavailable to older new Yorkers eligible for assistance; and for families or separately living persons with low and middle income.
«When will the cold winter nights, thanks to this funding, our residents will not freeze,» said Governor Andrew Cuomo. «They will no longer be forced to choose between buying food for the family and pay the bills for heating. I urge all new Yorkers with low incomes to apply».
According to experts of the program, for example, a family of four with an income of up to 53 482 dollars a year could qualify for assistance.
Applications are taken at local departments of social services, their list can be found on the link.
Need to download the application, print it, fill it out and mail it to you. Option applications in Russian language can be downloaded here.
In addition, from 2 January 2018 households may qualify for emergency assistance if they threaten to turn off the heating. For this you need to contact your Department of social services.
Last year, almost 1.5 million households in the state received assistance through the HEAP, of which more than 800 thousand in the city of new York.
