New York man released from prison after a 30-year sentence for a crime he did not commit, ready to start life anew.
46-year-old mark Denny said that he had experienced a lot in prison after being accused of robbery and assault, but now he found the strength to move forward. «I feel great. I feel free,» said Danny NBC4.
The decree by Mark Denny signed the district attorney of Brooklyn Eric Gonzales after careful re-consideration of his case.
«The unjust conviction of Mr. Denny was not a mistake of law enforcement or the result of false testimony. This happened because at that time little was known about the mechanism of memories and the identification of suspects at the memory,» — said the Prosecutor.
How AMNY reports, 20 December 1987, early in the morning there was a robbery in a Brooklyn Burger King. A group of young people stole 3 thousand dollars from the safe and was repeatedly raped by 18-year-old employee of an institution.
Since the attack prior to the trial the victim gave more than 10 different readings. He said that the attackers were three, then four.
Three suspects were arrested quickly, they were looking for a similar crime in Manhattan. Now, Mark Denny was detained only in January 1988. The victim pointed to him not the first time, and testimony was «vague».
Mark Denny was not guilty throughout the judicial process.
After his release, he said that the attitude towards sexual criminals in prison is not much different than how to relate to him in freedom, that he had much to endure.
«It was torture. I’ve reached the point that almost committed suicide,» said Danny. «But somehow was able to overcome it and is now ready to begin life with a clean slate.»
