Three California cities made the list of the worst places to live

California is one of the richest States, which became home to a record number of wealthy Americans. But, unfortunately, Golden state is the reverse — unemployment, poverty, a critical shortage of affordable housing and high crime rates.

Of course, these problems are not peculiar to all human settlements, but in some cities they are particularly acute.

Three California cities made the list of the worst places to live

In particular, San Bernardino, Stockton and Merced made the list of the worst places to live on the financial portal 24/7 Wall St.

When the rankings take into account the economic situation, the poverty, the crime situation and other factors.

  • Merced settled in 9th place due to polluted air, a large number of poor residents (35.1 per cent) and lack of infrastructure.
  • The situation in San Bernardino (11th place) is not much better. The poverty rate here is 32.6 per cent. While 8.2% of the population experience problems with employment — a figure that significantly exceeds the average unemployment rate in the country.
  • Stockton was on the 13th place among the worst cities in the United States due to the high level of crime. In 2015 there were 1 352 violent crimes per 100,000 inhabitants, which is three times the national level. Not less important factor is the large number of unemployed: 9.6% with a median of 5.3%. Air quality in Stockton, too, leaves much to be desired.
