In Illinois appears Magistral named Obama

The Senate of the state of Illinois voted yesterday, July 4, to rename part of interstate I-55 in honor of former U.S. President Barack Obama.

Plot I-55, which will be named in honor of Obama, is from Tri-State Tollway in the South to the 202 mile near Pontiac. The highway will now be called «Barack Obama Presidential Expressway«.

The initiative to rename was made by one of the members of the Senate of the state of Illinois Lashawn Ford. Recall, Barack Obama was a Senator from Illinois before he was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2004.
«Of course, Illinois Senator Obama has repeatedly traveled on I-55 between Springfield and Chicago so renaming is more than appropriate,» said Ford.

Ford added that the initiative could be the first of many all around the United States. «Certainly a lot of highways and streets once named in honor of Barack Obama, and Illinois will be the first,» said Ford.

The resolution of the Senate contains a request that the Department of transportation of the state of Illinois soon found the road signs with the new name of the highway.
