On the bridge the verrazano-Narrows introduces a cashless system

Drivers will no longer need to stop to pay for a bridge verrazano-Narrows.

Today the bridge is moved to a cashless system of payment. Officials hope that this will help to reduce traffic and the time drivers spend on the road. Governor Andrew Cuomo spoke in favor of this step as part of a series of measures to ease road congestion in front of «Infernal summer» from Amtrack.

Cuomo said the bridge verrazano-Narrows is a vital transport artery of new York, and cashless payment system will improve safety, reduce congestion, and facilitate travel between Staten island and Brooklyn.

«Moving to a Cashless Tolling system, we are modernizing our transportation infrastructure and facilitate the connectivity for current and future generations of new Yorkers».

Drivers can no longer pay for using the bridge is $17 cash. All they now need to do is to pass by special sensors and cameras that are mounted on the bridge.

Cars code E-ZPass will pay the toll automatically. Other car owners will receive a bill in the mail, due to the fact that the cameras will record the license plate number. MTA reports that they are unable to pay your bill online, by phone, in person or by mail.

To date the drivers without E-ZPass pay $17to cross the bridge. Residents with E-ZPass pay at $5.74 to $6,84 depending on how regularly they use the bridge.

According to the MTA, following the cashless system will translate the Throgs Neck bridge, what’s going to happen in September. In October the same will happen with the bridge Bronx-Whitestone.
