Police say 28-year-old woman was arrested after she left her two children in a homeless shelter on Emmons Avenue in Brooklyn.

On Thursday morning, Genevieve Gonzalez left his daughters, one of whom was only 3 monthsand the second 2 years, the shelter Family Shelter in Sheepshead Bay, where the family lived.

When Gonzalez returned home at about 07:30 in the morning, she found that the younger the girl, Annabelle, not breathing.

The woman immediately called 911. The doctors tried to explain to the mother how to resuscitate her before the ambulance, however, it did not help. The baby was taken to hospital where she was declared dead.

Gonzalez told police that she left the shelter to carry out neighborhood children on the school bus. Video surveillance shows that she went to the store. At home women were not 25 minutes.

When she came back and nursed my eldest daughter, Gonzalez noticed that the girl, not moving, lying on the bed surrounded by pillows and blankets. Investigators believe that, most likely, the mother accidentally crushed the babywhen she slept at night.

The woman was charged of endangering the welfare of a child, before the hearing she was released without bail. Her oldest daughter is currently in foster care.

The mother of the defendant said that she did not know how could happen such a tragedy. According to her, Gonzalez has always been a wonderful mother: she kept the kids, they were always clean, tidy and well-fed.

Police say that the body of the deceased girl not found traces of violence. The investigation is underway.
