About 18 percent of the respondents received a reprimand for being late for work for the last three months; about 13 percent of metro passengers lost wages and 2 percent have lost work because of delays in the subway.

The survey, conducted on 143 stations of the metro around the city, showed that the delays happen more often in areas with lower incomes, especially in the Bronx. According to Stringer, about 54% of the respondents from the Bronx spoke of delays of «more than half of the cases» or «always». For comparison, in Manhattan mentioned it only a quarter of respondents.

At a press conference in Queens on Sunday, MTA Chairman Joe Lhota said that although he personally was not familiar with the results of the study, he was not surprised by the statistics presented. Lhota returned to the Agency last month and promised to deal with the constant problems with the subway delays.

In addition, stringer warned that the situation will only worsen, and invited the legislative organs of the state and the Governor into dedicate $ 3.5 billionthat must be used to repair signal systems and other infrastructure.

According to Springer, the coming vote on the allocation of funds will take place no sooner than 2018.
