Hundreds of employees of fast food outlets came out to protest in Chicago

Hundreds of employees of fast food outlets demanding higher wages to 15 dollars an hour, gathered on Wednesday near the walls of the headquarters of McDonald’s Corp. in the suburbs of Chicago during the annual meeting of shareholders of the company. Dozens of protesters marched and the headquarters of United Airlines in Chicago, where by coincidence also held meeting of shareholders.

The demonstration was part of larger nationwide protest, organized by the working group «Fight for 15»which constantly urges McDonald’s to raise fees and expand the rights of workers.

«I saw my mother, who for 30 years worked at Hardees, fighting for food stamps to feed his family, and now I do the same,» said one of the protesters, a 42-year-old Terrance wise. The woman said that working in McDonald’s for three years and still earns only $7,65 per hour for work during a full working day. She also counts on food stamps, to include three year old daughter.

Despite the protest, at the General meeting of shareholders of McDonald’s, the question of salaries did not rise at all. All attention was focused on new products and implementation of delivery service UberEats.

In the McDonald’s average wage employee is about $ 10 per hour, but those institutions that operate under franchise set the wage level alone, and thus here the salary is about 7-8 dollars an hour.
