Dozens of dogs and more than 1,000 people visited the second annual world Cup of surfing among dogs, which was held on Saturday in Pacifica, California.
Dog surfing is a relatively new sport, the first competition in this discipline was held in San Diego 12 years ago. Even though this event may seem silly, the competition for surfing among dogs attract more participants and are held in Hawaii, in Florida, in Texas and in Australia.
Dogs compete in different categories: solo, when the pet is left alone with the Board, or in tandem with a person or another dog.
In the championship in Pacifica won a dog named Abbie Girl, Australian Kelpie breed. (Here it should be noted that kelpies in Scottish mythology, the water spirit, inhabiting rivers and lakes. Coincidence? It’s not like). Abby can’t simply stand on the surfboard, but also knows how to maneuver on the waves.
