Parents from Oregon because of their low IQ took the children

A couple from Oregon almost four years fighting for the restoration of custody of her children after the Department of social services took the boys from low intelligence quotient (IQ) of the parents.

According to the statement of social services, both parents have «limited cognitive abilities that prevent a prosperous upbringing of children,» reports the Oregonian.

Social services contacted a relative of the couple, then Shot. Amy and Eric Ziegler took son Christopher, and after – and the newborn the youngest child, hunter. Now the kids are in foster care.

The pair was never charged with inappropriate treatment of children or neglect of parental duties. All they guilty of low IQ.

In court documents stated that IQ is 72, Amy, and Eric – 66. The average IQ of 90-110 is considered to be.

However, both parents had not even worked, although now unemployed, but Eric receives a disability allowance.

«Yes, I have a disability, but it is very, very serious», — says the man. He adds that learns slower than others, but believes that «everyone learns at their own pace».

Couple living in a three bedroom house, 1200 square foot, which is owned by Eric’s parents (they live outside of Oregon). The Ziegler has a driver’s license, both parents graduated from high school.

«I love kids, my mother worked 20 years as a teacher of preschoolers, so I was always surrounded by children,» said the 31-year-old Emmy fabbrini for. «It’s my passion, and I look forward to a future with children.»

But Amy’s father, 74-year-old Raymond Shot. claims that his daughter is «unfit» for motherhood.
«She has no maternal instinct,» he notes.

Sherren, Hagenbach, lawyer and representative of the NGO «Healthy families» volunteered during the summer watching the family and talked with Amy and Eric.

According to Sherren, after she told the employees of social services, believes a couple can raise children, she was told that her services are no longer needed.

«They say that this foster family is better because she has a good financial position, and it can provide children an excellent education,» says the lawyer. «But if you follow this logic, bill gates should pick up my children. There will always be someone better than us, this is a dangerous position.»

In 2013 in Oregon was an attempt by the adoption of the bill on the rights of persons with disabilities. If the state accepted it, the law would prohibit «depriving of parental rights based solely on sickness or disability of a parent, including mental disability».
