How many lives has claimed Mary, and where is the hurricane now

Authorities in Puerto Rico say that hurricane Maria may be sad, «a historic event» for the island, which is not subjected to the attack of devastating hurricanes in the past 80 years.

The island flooded, and it is completely left without electricity. As reported by the Associated Press, the exact scale of destruction is still unknown, because dozens of municipalities are in isolation, and there has been no information after Maria hit Puerto Rico with the force of a hurricane, the 4th category.
At the end of Wednesday, September 20, it weakened to hurricane 2nd category, but then increased again – up to 3rd. As of Thursday morning, September 21, Mary was 55 miles from Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and moved to the North-West at a speed of 9 mph (15 km/h).

At the moment it is confirmed that in the Caribbean, the hurricane claimed the lives of at least ten people. Seven of them died on the island of Dominica, two in Guadeloupe. One person was killed in Puerto Rico – he was killed by the flying debris.

On the full restoration of electricity on the island, officials say, could take us weeks, if not months.

The situation is compounded by the fact that Puerto Rico and a hurricane has enough problems. Few years, the island is in deep economic crisis. Because of this, almost half a million Puerto Ricans moved to the mainland States.

«There is, in fact, there were only older people,» says Edwin Rosario, government employee retired. «The young people have left. If we don’t unite, the island will never be the same again».
