Harvey, Irma, Maria and Nate will disappear from the list of names of hurricanes

Last year was an extremely active hurricane season that produced 17 natural disasters. The effects of some of them were catastrophic for the United States and the Caribbean. The most destructive of them — Harvey, Irma, Maria and Nate — entered history and remains in it. In the coming years, these names will not be called Atlantic hurricanes.

The corresponding decision after the Congress, held in France, announced on Thursday, the world meteorological organization .

Missing names in the list will replace Harold (Harold), Idalia (I‘i), Margo (Margot) and Nigel (Nigel) — they start with the same letters of the Latin alphabet that fell out of favor, Harvey, Irma, Maria and Nate.

The last to return to the list only in 2023, when the memory of Americans and citizens of other affected countries will settle a bit scary memories.

Recall that 17 hurricanes last season only in the United States caused material damage in the amount of $250 billion, and Harvey, Irma, Maria and Nate (the first three followed each other) have claimed at least 361 life. The most terrible of steel Irma (134 victims) and Maria (112 dead). It is quite natural, because during natural disasters with female names killed more people. Experts attribute this to the fact that the victims underestimate the threat, so no time to prepare for it.
