Orange snow in Russia, Ukraine and Georgia

On the last weekend of the Sochi ski resort Rosa Khutor was more like a desert. Snow-covered hills were painted in orange color and began to resemble sand dunes.

The slopes acquired an unnatural hue on Friday, March 23, after a snowfall, which, however, did not prevent vacationers to ski, along the way capturing the»Martian landscapes».

In Rosgidromettsentrom unusual phenomenon is explained by the movement of air masses from the Sahara desert and from the island of Crete, where they had sand storms.

Orange snow fell not only in the Krasnodar region of Russia, but in Georgia in the ski resort Goderdzi.

A similar phenomenon was recorded in the vicinity of the Ukrainian city of Izmail. Local residents have suggested that the phenomenon is connected with the explosion at the chemical plant of Unipetrol in the Czech Republic that occurred on Thursday, March 22.

However, the mayor of Izmail Andrey Abramchenko dispelled those concerns, saying a laboratory analysis of the samples showed that the snow is not acidic and therefore not dangerous to humans.

«In the sediments are solid particles visually sand and clay fractions», — said in the conclusion of the Danube hydrometeoobservatory.
