A Florida man brought an AR-15 rifle and pistol to a Disney World resort, explaining that he was concerned for the safety of his family during the protests. According to the Orange County Sheriff, the incident happened last month when rallies were held in the state following the murder of African American police officer Salaya Melvin.
A recently released incident report says that a 43-year-old Palm Beach Gardens resident who checked into the Polynesian Village Resort on Labor Day weekend carried a gun in a tennis bag over a holiday weekend.
The bellboy, noticing how heavy the luggage was, decided to check its contents — and, finding a weapon with cartridges, immediately reported it to the manager. He, in turn, contacted the sheriff's office.
According to authorities, the man, whose name has not been released, has a permit to keep a weapon. He was not arrested, but the weapon was seized during his stay at the hotel.
