The victim’s family or sexual violence in Chicago will be able to get a month of paid vacation

City employees who are victims of domestic violence or sexual violence, will receive one month of paid vacation in accordance with the new program announced Monday by mayor of Chicago Rahm Emanuel.
Emanuel said that the program introduced during the month of awareness about domestic violence, designed to ensure victims of violence the support of the city, which stands «shoulder to shoulder» with them.
«Most of them don’t have to make the false choice between getting help or salary,» said Emanuel. «They can spend their time — paid time to recover my life.»
The provision of paid vacation a particular employee must be approved by the city Council. Such leave will be available for people who fall under the law known as the Law on the economic security and safety of victims, said Emanuel.
According to officials, domestic violence is the leading cause of injury among women aged 15 to 44 years in the United States. From violence affects more women than car accidents, robberies and sexual assaults.
Emanuel also stated that, although the number of beds for those who were forced to leave the house in the context of violence increased by 40% during his tenure, the queue of people waiting for assistance is still there.
In addition, employees who are victims of domestic violence or sexual assault are entitled to «reasonable employment», without the application of the rules on the employment of persons living exclusively in the city.
