Golden state is an atypical habitat for the yellow-bellied pelamid. Usually they are found in warmer parts of the Pacific and Indian ocean: near Mexico, Bengal, Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi, southern China and in the Persian Gulf.

Referring to the expert on Herpetology Greg Pauly, the Orange County Register reports that over the past 56 years Pelamis platurus were coming to California only 5 times, while 3 cases were reported in the last 3 years.

The scientist believes that snakes are frequent in the American region due to the increase in water temperature in the ocean.

According to him, the rare reptiles are not dangerous to swimmers, despite the powerful poison. The first yellow-bellied palamidi do not show aggression, moreover, due to the small jaw and the special arrangement of the fangs it is difficult for them to bite humans.

All the detected individuals are part of the exhibition which will be held in the natural history Museum on 20 and 21 January.
