The tragedy occurred yesterday, April 14, early in the morning at the Brooklyn Prospect Park, near the baseball diamonds. Near the remains of 60-year-old human rights activist, the police found «evidence» — a suicide note in which he called on mankind to be less selfish, to protect our planet. In the suicide note, the lawyer says commits suicide with the help of fossil fuels — in a reminder of the damage that humanity has caused the Earth, and laments the fact that most people breathe harmful air, and many die prematurely.

David Bakel was the lead lawyer in the case, has received global resonance after the release of the 1999 film «Boys don’t cry» with Hilary swank in the title role, the actress brought «Oscar». The film was based on the story of the killing of transsexual Brandon Teena, who was unable to defend County Sheriff Nebraska Charles Louks. It Bakel made to law enforcement officers eventually found guilty.

All my life Bakel defended the civil rights of lesbians, homosexuals, bisexuals and transsexuals, was engaged in cases involving same-sex marriage in new Jersey and Iowa, and later attended to the problems of ecology.

A colleague of Bacala Susan Sommer called it one of the «architects of equality in marriage.» But Camilla Taylor, with whom the deceased also once worked, was convinced that he was a «legal visionary».
