In the Bronx there was a collapse of walls: 40 people evacuated

Near the five-storey residential buildings in the Bronx collapsed retaining wall: as a result of the 40 residents had to be evacuated.

According to the FDNY, today (13 may) around noon on Bailey Avenue near West 233rd Street in Kingsbridge area of the collapsed retaining wall. As reported by the NYPD, the collapsed part of the wall with a size of 60 by 30 feet (18 by 9 m).

Deputy assistant FDNY Michael the Gal said that three of the Builder did some work in the area. According to police, the wall touched the window of the apartment on the ground floor, which broke.

«We had Breakfast in the living room and my fiancé was playing PlayStation, when suddenly everything was shaking,» – said the inhabitant of the house of Deadlin Galvez.

The representative of the red cross reported that 40 residents of the building had to be evacuated, and the tenants on the ground floor temporarily to leave his home. It is unknown whether they will be able to go home tomorrow morning.

According to Gala, the cause of the collapse is still under investigation. FDNY officers found no victims or injured during the incident.

«We conducted a thorough primary and secondary search, and knocked on the door of each resident to confirm that no one was missing,» said Gala.

The Department of buildings of new York calls this retaining wall «protecting structure» which serves to «deter soil» that it did not fail on the lower portions.
