In Los Angeles a man trying to escape from police, made a fire and took hostages

According to the LAPD statement, on Sunday, July 22, a tragic incident occurred which resulted in the death of at least 1 person, 2 more hospitalized. The situation got out of control at the moment when the police tried to detain the suspect in the attempted murder. He got into a shootout with police and took hostage a few dozen people.

It all started about 13:30 local time in South Los Angeles. As a result of family dispute, 28-year-old Evin, Jean Atkins 7 times shot at his grandmother, who is now in critical condition. However, he also stabbed the girlwhich was in a relationship. Having finished with the elderly woman, the offender planted a bleeding passion into the car and tried to escape from the scene. However, in the Hollywood area police intercepted the attacker.

When the chase began, the Atkins opened fire on law enforcement from the window of his car. At some point he lost control and crashed into a pole, near a supermarket popular chain Trader Joe’s. Leaving the car and the wounded girl, the offender ran to the store, where there were 40 to 50 people. All this time Atkins did not stop shooting, provoking return fire by the police. At this point, the attacker was wounded in the hand, and one of the bullets hit bystanders. Officers attempted to give her first aid, but the woman survived.

Once inside the supermarket, the man ordered everyone to lie on the floor and told LAPD that he had taken visitors hostage. While some people managed to escape or hide in the back rooms. As a result of negotiations that lasted more than 3 hours, the police managed to convince Atkins to give up. He released all the hostages and walked outside with his hands up.
