The offender claimed that he woke up when their catamaran what was hit and began to capsize. This happened 30 miles West of the Bahamas Cay Sal. The man told investigators that when he tried to find Hellmann, it was not there. Then, Bennett has released an SOS signal.

He was rescued by the US coast guard between Cuba and the Bahamas. Despite a thorough search by sea and air, the body Hellman was never found.

Back in the US, Bennett immediately took their daughter Emelia, which in July will be 3 years in Scotland, where his family lives, denying relatives Hellman to see the child. He then through the courts of Florida demanded that his wife was declared dead, and he was transferred to the possession apartment in Delray beach. The judge rejected the petition.

The FBI soon established that the damage to the boat was caused from the inside, and there was no evidence that she in fact hit.

Prosecutors argued that «marital difficulties» of the pair was the motive for the alleged murder along with his desire to inherit her property. According to his family, Bennett believed that their child was born at the «wrong time», and the man was «very angry» because of the spelling of the name of the child.

Today, may 28, a man was sentenced to prison in Federal court in Miami. After an agreement with prosecutors in November 2018 Bennett has pleaded guilty to manslaughter. He gave up all rights to modest the property to his wife as part of the transaction about recognition of fault.

The sentence imposed nearly two weeks after the County judge of palm beach has announced a Hellman legally dead — presumably lost at sea.
