A fire in Upper West Side, lit up hatches, local residents were left without electricity, streets blocked

Thursday, July 13, at about 17:30 in Manhattan’s Upper West Side caught fire three hatches located at the intersection of 71st street and Broadway. For several hours are coming out thick black smoke, and soon their fate befell three of the hatch.

Apparently, the fire was caused by overheating of electrical cables, which subsequently caught fire. But the exact cause of the fire has yet to be announced. It is known that no one was hurt.

On a scene there arrived the staff of the Fire Department of new York city. They began isolating and disabling burning cables, but the process was rather slow: the situation was taken under control only to 22:00.
