Service citizenship and immigration will destroy everything not delivered to the recipients of the documents

April 2, entered into force a new rule Service, citizenship and immigration (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services — USCIS), according to which all not delivered to the recipients of the documents (green cards, work permits, travel documents, etc.) within 60 days after their return mail shall be destroyed. If the document is destroyed, a duplicate, the applicant will have to pay a lot of money: for example, restoration of the certificate of naturalization will cost $600.

«Don’t forget when you move to notify USCIS about the address change and begin to sound the alarm if suspected that the document was misplaced, as early as possible,» advises immigration lawyer Natalia Polutin.

Residents of the United States who are not citizens of the country must report the change of address within 10 days of moving within the U.S. or its territories. With the exception of:

  • diplomats (visa status A);
  • official government representatives (visa status G);
  • some nonimmigrants without visas and reside in the United States less than 30 days.
