Traveling in USA: the Salvador Dali Museum, St Petersburg, FL

It is logical to assume that the world’s largest collection of works by Salvador Dali is in his hometown of Figueres in Spain. To see it, will have to make the long journey and cross the ocean. St. Petersburg is home to the Dali Museum since 1982. It was then that an extensive collection of paintings, owned by Reynolds and Eleanor Morse, moved to Florida. In 2011, the Museum has acquired a new luxury building, where he currently «lives» more than 2000 works.

It is worth noting that the Museum building itself looks to be put in there collection. Its facade is decorated with huge glass bubble of the wrong form. Special lighting highlights the bubble structure, and unusual 900 Windows let the sun’s light inward at crazy angles. This effect, combined with a spiral staircase and a flowing, organic nature of Dali’s paintings creates the feeling that you are in the body of a living being.

Visitors can see seven works of authorship, from the pen of the Dali, including «the Hallucinogenic toreador» and «the Discovery of America by Christopher Columbus». The rest of the collection consists of numerous paintings, drawings, sculptures, and films and photographs. In addition, it often hosts guest exhibitions of other famous artists including Andy Warhol, M. C. Escher and Pablo Picasso.

The Salvador Dali Museum works every day from 10:00 to 17:30and Thursday the doors are open until 20:00. You can find him at 1 Dalí Boulevard (near the airport Albert Whitted Airport). The ticket will cost you $24 (children 13+ and students: $17, children 6-12: $10, seniors $22). More information is available on the Museum website.
