The President of the United States Donald trump did not back down from his idea to organize an Independence Day celebration July 4 in Washington. With the idea to lead the celebration trump spoke in February, but faced a barrage of harsh criticism. The Washington Post writes that the criticism did not stop the White house and the preparations are in full swing, citing sources in the administration and the Ministry of internal Affairs, which already «works».
«KEEP THE DATE! We will have one of the largest celebrations in the history of Washington, D.C., July 4. It will be called «salute to America» and will be held at the Lincoln Memorial. The main fireworks, entertainment and a performance of the beloved President, me!» — tweeted Donald trump in February, saying that he was going to personally participate in the festival and to act on it.

Critics have accused trump of the assignment of the national holiday and the use of the sacred date to honor myself. The national Park service for over half a century satisfied with the traditional fireworks, which is attended annually by hundreds of thousands of Americans. The event was broadcast live on television since 1947 and includes a free concert on the West lawn of the Capitol.
The Congresswoman from Minnesota, Betty McCollum, criticized trump’s attempt to turn a national holiday into personal: «If the President tries to devote the total holiday for yourself personally, I think the American public will be disappointed and outraged». Democratic Senator, presidential candidate Kamala Harris said that the President «needs to realize that it’s America’s birthday, not his birthday.» Earlier presidents basically did not speak at this occasion, emphasizing his departinent.
Meanwhile, the Minister of the interior David Bernhardt told the Washington Post that the work on the preparation of the festival already are: «I think the President is excited with this idea, and we are working hard on it, and I think it can be very, very significant. The President likes the idea, like all Americans, to honor America on the fourth of July». It is noted that there will be costs associated with changes to the schedule of the festival, as well as to ensure the safety of the President among the hundreds of thousands of people. It is not excluded that a situation might arise which could limit public access in some areas.
Among the ideas that existed in the White house associated with the celebration of the 4th of July, also called earlier a military parade in Washington — Trump loved the French parade on Bastille Day. However, apparently, this year it is not planned.
