Donald trump Jr. confirmed his meeting last year with Natalia Veselnitskaya, a lawyer from Russia, which allegedly has ties with the Russian government. The meeting was held at the Manhattan trump tower, 9 June 2016, i.e. two weeks later after the trump Sr. was the only presidential candidate from the Republican party.
All of the «salt» of the situation is that Veselnitskaya promised Trump to provide information that «tarnished» the reputation of the main political opponent of his father – Hillary Clinton. So says The New York Times, referring to the three advisors of the White house, but not calling them names.
The most controversial point is that trump Jr. really knew about the existing incriminating evidence in advance, and agreed to meet in order to get this information.
However, correspondents of The New York Times believe that the recognition of the fact that the meeting is “the first public indication that some of [the presidential campaign trump] were ready to receive Russian aid”.
Given the ongoing Federal investigation of Russian interference in presidential elections in the United States, the meeting may be represented in a very controversial manner.
