The Governor of the state of new York Andrew Cuomo believes that it’s time for the state to end the practice when the employer pays the employees wages less than minimum because of tips.
The fight against such practices is one of the agendas in terms of Cuomo in 2018, is reported on the official website of the Governor.
According to Cuomo, he initiates a public hearing, which will address the issue of payment of work in the service sector: waiters, car washers and so on.
«Many employers make workers have to live on one tip, but they are not enough. Discrimination exists against women or racial minorities. We are talking about fundamental justice. In new York you believe that all workers deserve respect, there should be no exceptions,» said Cuomo.
«I have instructed the labour Department to ensure that the rights of service industry workers are respected, and look forward to the results.»
While it is not known how to regulate the wages and tips of employees, it will have to decide at the public hearing. They, by the way, anyone can come. Information about the date of the hearing will appear later on the website of the Governor.
