The owner of Memorial Park David Coggins told The Associated Press that the attendees are not white nationalists or racists, but they want to honor the memory of Confederate soldiers.

«It is important to remember our history, because those people who forget their ancestors are doomed to repeat their mistakes,» said Coggins.

At the opening of the monument in the Park was a lot of Confederate flags, some were dressed in costumes of the time.

Coggins added that the opening was planned long before the events in Charlottesville, a few months ago, and the monument itself ordered last year.

Debbie Weir, the representative of the organization «Daughters of the Confederacy» was told that the monument was erected in honor of «all that had to endure their ancestors», and she likes when people from different States gather in moments like this.

«It’s always a good day when the confederates together,» she added.
