Scientists have unraveled the mystery of the Bermuda triangle

In one only the XX century the area of the Atlantic ocean between Florida, Puerto Rico and Bermuda has absorbed dozens of ships. And now, it seems, scientists from the University of Southampton came close to unraveling a century of mystery. The cause of death of marine vessels in the sinister triangle they called extreme storm, or wandering, wave, known as wave-rogue. Extremely powerful and high (30 meters), they allowed a ship to the bottom in minutes.

Specifically for the documentary film «the Mystery of the Bermuda triangle» scientists conducted an experiment by building for him a copy of «Cyclops» — a huge, flat-bottomed vessel, missing in the triangle in 1918, and recreating themselves wandering wave.

«Cyclops», carrying fuel to us warships, disappeared on the way from Bahia (Salvador) in Baltimore. No wreckage of the 165-foot vessel was found. Signs of the crew and passengers: 306 people have disappeared. We cannot say for sure that the «Cyclops» disappeared in Bermuda triangle, but the fact that it was not the received distress call indicates that the ship disappeared under unusual circumstances. The death of 306 people were on Board the «Cyclops», is the largest not related to fighting human loss of the U.S. Navy.

In the infamous area of the Atlantic is often possible to see 3 huge storms converge in one place, creating the ideal conditions for the occurrence of rogue waves, says the marine biologist-biophysicist Simon Boxall. «In the South and the North has the storms that come at the same time, the scientist said. And if there is another storm out of Florida perhaps the formation of deadly waves-rogue».

The impact of such a wave, says Simon Boxall can cut through a ship like the «Cyclops», in half. In any case, it is the modern copy could not stand the pressure of artificial rogue waves.
