29-year-old Michael Herz from Cheshire (UK) lost 30-year-old Saima just four months after they were married. The girl became ill with a rare brain disease a few days before Christmas 2018.

Death Saima was a shock, as her symptoms were initially mistaken for the flu, but she died a few days after diagnosis «meningoencephalitis».

A year later, before Christmas, Mike, who also lost his mother and brother in a car accident in 2002, still trying to come to terms with the death of his wife.

«I don’t even have words to describe what happened — the guy told MailOnline. — It’s only been about a week since she got sick. My pain was so intense, I was petrified and could not even cry. She was buried in a wedding dress».

What seemed flu-like symptoms in girls, actually had signs of meningoencephalitis, a potentially fatal inflammation of the brain.

«Saima was everything to me, and she left. In the hospital I told her that I loved her and begged me not to fall asleep, but her eyes rolled and she stopped responding. At this point I just fell to my knees and wept in the middle of the hospital.»

Doctors put in Saima who, but four days later announced that the brain of the girl died.

«Her heart was beating only because she was connected to the apparatus, said Michael. — Syme was so strong and never let anyone about anything not asked for. I knew she wouldn’t want to be in a vegetative state. So in the end we agreed with the doctors about how to let go of her.»

Now Michael Herz works tirelessly to raise funds for the encephalitis Society, hoping that one day more research will lead to better treatment of this dangerous disease.

But he remains inconsolable.
«I know that I will never meet anyone like her.»
