Out of water fish-needle pierced the teenage boy through the neck

The boy from Indonesia is lucky to be alive after his neck was pierced with a fish-needle — thanks to life-saving surgery.

On Saturday, the 16-year-old Mohammed Idol was fishing with his parents in the waters of Buton off the South-Eastern province of Sulawesi, when out of the water jumped a fish-needle. The fish knocked the boy to the boat in the water, but Mohammed managed to escape.

Long jaw of the fish pierced the neck of Muhammad and struck the back of his head. The boy was taken to a local hospital, but doctors were unable to help as they didn’t have the proper equipment. Soon he was transferred to another hospital in Makassar, where finally had a complicated two-hour operation.

«To remove fish fish, you need to be very careful because the neck is a large vessel.» said Dr. sifri K. Arif, who participated in the operation.

At the moment Mohammed is still in the hospital, as doctors fear the emergence of infection. According to the Director of the hospital, the patient is in stable condition, but he still has a fever.

«We will wait until the temperature subsides. Hopefully, she will not rise.» — the doctor says.

According to the doctors, the boy will stay in hospital for up to four days.
